Remote interpreting, also known as Remote Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI), has gained significant traction over the past few years, particularly since early 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic brought about travel restrictions and social distancing measures, prompting many organizations to adopt this solution to maintain their international operations effectively.

Consecutive Online Interpreting
Many companies already utilize platforms like Zoom, WebEx, or Microsoft Teams for internal meetings. For brief bilingual discussions, interpreters can join as participants and interpret the dialogue section by section. This method is straightforward and does not require additional software.
The Emergence of RSI Platforms
RSI platforms were initially designed for on-site conferences, allowing interpreters to connect remotely. Since the pandemic, these platforms have evolved to facilitate interpreter connections in video conferences as well.
Online Interpreting via RSI Platforms
Today, most RSI platform providers offer either the option to host events directly on their platform or integrate with the online platform that clients typically use. A technician is usually available to assist participants or interpreters with any technical issues via phone or email.
Online Interpreting with Zoom
Currently, Zoom is the only conferencing platform that offers a built-in simultaneous interpreting feature. This allows interpreters for any language combination to be added directly to a Zoom conference. The simultaneous interpretation function can be activated through a subscription and is easy to set up without requiring technical support before or during the event.
